I'm trying to use the word buíoch - but I'm not at all sure that it would be used in this way. Anyway I've managed this so far -

A chara
I dtús báire, ba mhian liom iarraidh ort más féidir leat in aon chor a chuir dom an DVD ----, agus bheinn mé fíor-buíoch agat.
(what did I get wrong?)

First, for the buíoch bit, I've always heard it as bheinn buíoch d(h)uit. The mé is in the -inn ending.

Instead of cur dom an DVD, perhaps: an DVD a chur dom (or an DVD a sheoladh chugam).

In summary, so far:

I dtús báire, ba mhian liom iarraidh ort, más féidir leat in aon chor, an DVD a chuir dom--agus bheinn fíor-bhuíoch duit.

"Friend,
First, I'd like to ask you, if you can at all, to send me the DVD--and I would be truly grateful to you." (Is that the meaning you are aiming for?)

The difference is that duit is incorrect and díot is correct. (My sources on this one appear to have been consistently wrong. )

Yup. That agam is actually chugam in disguise. It's the way we say it in Connemara. (Though cur dom is actually in the dictionary too as "send me".)

chugam => 'ugam => agam

Franc it is your choice whether you write chugam or agam, I'll give you the chugam version:

Ahh ! You see when I use abrievated speech I often don't know what word is left out, or what is the original word shortened.
I would actually say "an dvd a chuir 'am" Stupid I know but I didn't know if that was agam or chugam. I am the worlds worst at Irish grammar.

Not at all, a Bhríd. These kinds of contractions are a natural part of most, if not all, languages.

So the full progression is chugam => 'ugam => agam => 'am

the trouble I have is that when these kinds of mistakes get pointed out, that they seem so obvious (but I'm a part-time-learner - un faux-débutant)
I used fíor- simply as an intensifier so perhaps an- would be more suitable. (Are there websites that give examples of letter writing as Gaeilge?) - There might be a better way of saying - I would be very grateful to you if you could.....? I thought that más might be better than dá here.

Fíor is usually used with "buíoch".


But I don't think you need to add "i dtús báire" at all.
