I think tá has been taking over functions of "is". Has the copula ever been used to state the year?

Yes - I think this is better than bhí sé 2002, but of course all native-attested uses are acceptable.

Níl a fhios agam. D'aimsíos an abairt seo in Oral Literature from Dunquin:

Quote:
D'fhág san canncar aigne agus crádh croidhe ar a fear céile.

da:g sn kauŋkər ag´in´ə agəs kra: krɪ: єr ə f´ar k´e:l´ə -

Taobh thiar dò san (an Béarlachas é seo?), níl aon trácht eile agam ar 'cancer', is dócha ná raibh ana-mheas air an uair sin agus nuair a thánaig sé in iúl don bpobal Gaelainne is dócha go raibh an Béarla go hana-láidir ins na Gaeltachtaí.

seachtó fén gcéad de sheans '70% chance'
bhí sé róghairid don bpósadh 'it was too close to the marriage'
ní rabhadar sásta ach ar nós mé fhéin I assume this is an example of the superfluous ach?
an seomra feithimh 'the waiting room'
bhíos ag léamh na bpáipéar agus na leabhra, I'm not sure if leabhra is an alternative plural of leabhair or a genitive plural (Muskerry Irish can have leabharach or leabharthacha as the genitive plural)
cearr 'wrong'
scuad lámhaigh 'firing squad'
dóchas 'hope'
naocha seacht féin gcéad dá leithéid seo '97% of this type'. Here is an example of dá leithéid which Ó Laoghaire expressed was wrong
obráid 'surgical operation'
an chomaoineach bheannaithe 'the holy communion'
