Father Peter's comments on the Irish are in a letter at the back of Notes on Irish Words and Usages, transcribed by me at https://corkirish.wordpress.com/2012/10 ... ng-seadna/ The Irish have fóntacht ghoirgeach dho-thíosach.

Granted, but the issue at the core of my input here is a mistranslation from Latin, not Irish. And, as we're on the subject of Latin, both argumentum ad verecundiam and argumentum ad hominem are forms of logical fallacy. PUL is not correct simply because you admire him, nor am I wrong simply because you dislike the Irish.

Adrienne, I don't dislike the Irish. They are known in England for being pleasant (as I expect you know if you've ever been to England). I dislike nasty behaviour, and I think the Irish language movement has a disproportionate share of do-thíosach people. In fact, I think the monoglot English-speaking Irish are quite a bit more easy-going.
