I apologize if this is not the place people typically ask for advice on pronouncing names!


We are from the states and fell in love with the name Odhrán after our honeymoon to Ireland. We put it in the back of our minds and now we are expecting. We love this name and want to make sure we are pronouncing it correctly. Because we live in the states I do not think we will not be using a fada but plan to spell it Oran. I saw somewhere it was pronounced Or-en like Lauren and we started to use that. Now I’m seeing it is pronounced more like Or-awn, which we thought in the beginning.

Any advice? Are there people in Ireland with the name Oran that pronounce it Or-en?
