You need the word "ach" for the "but" part of your expression.

Also if I was to say " NEVER GIVE UP, KEEP THE GREEN ABOVE THE RED"
Would it be:
NÁ GÉILL CHOÍCHE, COINNIGH AN GLAS OS CIONN AN DEARG.......????

Yes

THANK YOU

Bríd Mhór
MacBoo
An Cionnfhaolach
Errigal
CaoimhínSF

I must admit this place is absolutely a goldmine.
The first translations I got were from a Preist from DONEGAL who posts 99% of the time on Facebook in Gaeilge.
Bríd had posted a link to my first post on this site in January to a translation he had done of St Patrick's Breastplate so I asked him first for his take on my few lines.
I find it amazing but also confusing how one person's view and another's can vary so much.
I understand how the language varies between provinces , but there are so many variants one word can mean.
All I can say is you all are a credit to this forum and even an old dog like me is learning a few new tricks.
I could spend the whole day browsing posts on this site and never get tired of it.
Thank you all so much for your tenacity and dedication in striving to do your best for me, it really, really is most humbling seeing people I don't know go out of their way to help.

God bless you all xxx
Eamon

'I TRUST IN THE CROSS' - 'TÁ MUINÍN AGAM AS AN CHROIS' would be the usual way (in Ulster. In the rest of Ireland it would be 'GCROIS' instead of 'CHROIS').

The genitive follows os cionn.

:good:

Read back on all the corrections given by others. And write what we gave you, you keep leaving out letters in your replies.

Thanks Bríd but still not sure on " KEEP THE GREEN ABOVE THE RED"

I might be just stupid but is it ...

COINNIGH AN GLAS OS CIONN AN DEARG.

COINNIGH AN GLAS OS CIONN NA DEARG.

The AN and the NA are confusing me before DEARG.
Forgive me but my eyesight is not 100% either.

Coinnigh an glas os cionn na deirge
As An Cionnfhaolach said it takes the genitive.

Caomhín said: ÉIST LEIS AN TOIRNEACH ACH NÁ BÍ I DO SHEASAMH AMUIGH SAN FHEARTHAINN - Listen to the thunder but don't be standing out in the rain.

CREIDIM SA CHROIS OR CREIDIM SA gCROIS (g must be lowercase if the rest is capitals)

both cros and crois are correct, it depends on dialect.

NÁ GÉILL CHOÍCHE
