Hi from Germany

During my researches I came over the latin phrase "Memento Mori" (what means "remember that you have to die")

Because I have little relations to the latin language I would like to translate it into gaelic and hope to find help here.


I'm not sure, if its possible to ask something like this here, but:
Is there maybe a special gaelic phrase with a "similar" meaning?

(The phrase shall remember me to fully aware of each moment of my life, because they will never come back.
Especially the good moments, because there will come for sure bad ones.
And at end of life I will not look back and think "why did I have not…" )

To be clear…I do not want a translation of the ( ) stuff…I just wrote it down to explain what I am looking for.

Hmmm...one I can think of that may work is "Is iomaí lá sa chill orainn" -- "We are in the churchyard (i.e., the grave) many a day." That's a traditional Irish seanfhocal (proverb).

which is said to be a proverb meaning figuratively "All men are mortal" (acc. to the dictionary)
though I can't figure out its literal meaning.
(Food didn't taste that death will not taste?)

Though not a literal translation, I like Is dual dúinn uile an bás ('Death must come to us all/We are all fated to die' etc). I wouldn't bother with 'Remember that...'

The proverb that Redwolf gave you - Is iomaí lá sa chill orainn - encapsulates well the philosophy expressed in "the ( ) stuff" - 'You'll be dead a long time, so make the most of the short time you're alive' - or something like that.

I think it means literally: I haven't tasted any food that won't taste death.
Meaning everything dies, food and people. Nothing is everlasting.
