Guys,I cant thank you enoughas a matter of interest is the Irish translation similar or is it taking the essence of what is written?

Well, An Lon Dubh took a bit of poetic license (just a wee bit), but I think that his translation is actually quite an improvement on the original and I would definitely go with his version!

What does it translate to?

A chroí, a stór, raghad in éineacht leat go maith sa choíll, liúfad t'ainm agus sinne ar bruach na habhann, céiliúradh an londuibh i gcóngar dúinn, agus ansan cuirfead an cheist.


Roughly:

"My heart, my love*, I would** go with you well into the woods, I would speak your name as we are on the river bank, the blackbird would sing near us, and then I would ask the question."

* There are many Irish endearments that would be translated to "my love" or "my dear" in English. "A stór" is one you'll hear quite often.

** I'm not familiar with forms common to Munster Irish, so I'm assuming this is the conditional mode. Please correct me, someone, if I'm mistaken about that.

cuirfead – I will put (of course, it's "I will ask" in this case)
