If you are into traditional music in any way, shape or form, you need to watch this series!
Guth na nGael was originally aired on RTE, and most of the episodes weren't available to people outside of Ireland due to copyright issues. It's now available on TG4, and you can watch all of them!
The episodes start with songs of emigration, and progress through protest songs, keening, etc. It's just an amazing series!
If you're interested in the protest songs in particular, you'll want to watch episode 2 for sure, but do watch episode 1 first. They're listed with the most recent first, so go to the furthest page. For episode 1, you're looking for 6 Ean, S1, E1. The rest will go in reverse order...E2, E3, etc.
I don't know how long these will be available, so don't delay, if you're interested! I'm going to be doing a marathon session tonight!
If you're not strong Irish speaker, don't be intimidated! The episodes are about 60% in English, and what isn't in English is subtitled.
From this link, scroll down to "Físeáin sa tSraith" (Films in the Series), then go one arrow to the right to find E1. Click on the link, not on the thumbnail (for some reason the thumbnail just goes to the TG4 Player main page).
