Anyway, shadow tag is pretty much the same as regular tag. One person is chosen to be "it." The other people try to keep away from "it." Usually the players who are not "it" have a limited area in which they can run, agreed upon before the game begins. If "it" manages to step on someone's shadow, that person now becomes "it." Best played on a sunny day, for obvious reasons.

Redwolf is correct. It is not a typo. It is the same game.
"Tag" is used mostly by Americans. Outside the US (and Canada?), it is usually "tig" or "tiggy". It is also know as "tick","touch", and "touch-last", verifying Franc's comment about "tick".
Sometimes in addition to the above rules, we would have a "bar", a resting place where you were safe from "it" as long as you were touching it or standing on it.
