Kind of OT (except that Spanish potatoes reminded me) but did you know that the original "Turkeys" or "Turkey fowl" were what are now called Guineafowl? They come from Africa and were introduced to Central Europe through markets in Turkey.

Later when European explorers got to the New World, they found similar indigenous birds and thought they were a type of Guineafowl, so they named them "turkeys". The name stuck with the new birds and the original "Turkeys" became "Guineas", for no better reason than it was a place in Africa most people knew by name.

That's interesting! I did't know that, and have always wondered how a North American bird got itself named after a country that straddles Europe and Asia!
