Scottish Gaelic: features that are close to CG : - same system of independent and dependent forms of verbs (also partly true with Ulster Irish, at least as far as irregular verbs are concerned) - the dative case has survived (not the case in most Irish dialects)
Irish: - most words, prepositions etc are more similar to the CG ones than those of SG - the irregular verbs of Munster and Ulster Irish in particular are closer, as far as I can remember - the spelling of pre-1950s Irish is very close to that of CG, while SG has some innovations - its pronunciation is closer to CG (SG has been influenced by Old Norse & has some innovations)
