Hi I'm new to the forum after a recommendation from another.

After loosing a family member I intend to have some of their words tattooed to my arm so I can always read and remember them. I only want a few words of the whole thing they told me translated so if anyone can help I would be very grateful with the help. I would like to know if this phrase can be translated easily - Make life what you can.

That little phrase means a lot to me so if anyone can help and confirm the translation it would be great.

This is the same request I asked on Irish translator forums so please can anyone help?

A suggestion to get the ball rolling:

Bain ceol as an saol
Literally: Get music out of life. Loosely: Enjoy life.

A direct translation might sound awkward. Wait for further input.

Déan saol cad is féidir leat .... Is what I have from a friend but I'm not sure if that's right or similar. I realise a direct translation will be quite awkward maybe impossible but it would be brill if someone could help.

What Scooby has given is a good alternative.

For something a bit more literal, perhaps:

Bain an méid is féidir leat as an saol "Get what you can out of life."

Await further input ...

Thank you that's more in keeping with the rant she gave me and thank you again for the kind words. Thing is my gran would have translated it so that's the reason for the request here as she no longer is.

If you want a more literal translation, then Breandán's is good. I think you could leave the word 'leat' out of it.

Yeah, that would be even better from an Irish perspective:

Bain an méid is féidir as an saol "Get all that is possible out of life."
