I would love to know the meaning and correct spelling of a four-line tattoo that goes something like this:

is péidír aon rud sa saol seo chur or on oit díansheasm
.chfa ní dheidh talent: aon rud nios c oítianta ná doome..
.righ le tallann. ni dheidh genius unreuolo
e.cod.oghach seanfhocal ni dheidh oideochas: is é on

A dot stands for a character I can't read because of angle. Some other characters may be mangled as well.

Thank you in advance!

The first sentence may be

"Is féidir aon rud sa saol seo chur ar an áit dianseasmhacht"

"Anything in this world can take the place of persistence"

The rest of it is guesswork. A lot of it seems garbled and mixed with English and Irish neologisms.

Can you post a photo or a link to where a photo can be seen? That would help a great deal.

Tim

Hi Tim, thank you for looking into it. I've placed here several views of the tattoo in question.

I see that I read some a's as o's in the part that you could make out, I likely misread a few other letters as well.
Can you make any sense of the last three lines now?
Thank you

Sorry, I've seen this but it's taken me some time to get around to it.
Give us more time to look into it as there may be other opinions on it here.

Oh, very sorry if I came across as impatient! You're amazingly kind and any answer, however slow or incomplete, will be much appreciated.

The bold part below is what the translation is from.
They left out the last two sentences which detracts from the meaning of the whole thing. It seems to me, as it is my natural bent, to have something concise and artful for a tattoo like "Coinnigh leis!" (Press on!). That's the gist of the whole thing really, isn't it? People ask what it means and it's food for conversation. "Well, this is from a quote by Calvin Coolidge, 30th President . . ."

I can't figure out everything that is written in those photographs so I gave up but I have seen enough to make me think it's not a good translation at all, esp. use of English words, awkward terms, and bad grammar.

Below the English is my attempt at a translation which may be closer to something acceptable. I think we need to see how other people on the forum would render it with corrections and improvements on what I have posted.

Tim

Nothing in this world can replace persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

― Calvin Coolidge, 30th US President of the United States

Ní féidir le haon rud ar an saol seo teacht in áit na seasmhachta:

Ní thiocfaidh an tallann - níl aon rud níos coitianta ná fir nár éirigh leo le tallann;

Ní thiocfaidh an sárbhua - is geall le seanfhocal é "sárbhua gan choinne";

Ní thiocfaidh an t-oideachas - tá an domhan lán le créatúir bhochta oilte.

Tá dianseasmhacht agus diongbháilteacht amháin omnipotent.

Tá an mana 'Coinnigh leis!' réitithe agus réiteoidh sé fadhbanna an chine dhaonna i gcónaí.
