The correct name for our island is Ériu not Éire and it is most definitely not Ireland, to me the word Irish can be translated as gibberish or nonsense because in reality that's what it is a nonsense word. Táim, I don't think you understand entirely. Éireann is the genitive and is not the nominative in any case. Éire is a valid name for Ireland. It derives from an older Ériu, which referred to Ireland and also the goddess Ériu.
