Hello! This is my first post here (or in any forum in fact!) so forgive me if I'm missing any particular forum etiquette!

I am Scottish (not a Gaelic speaker, but do enjoy singing Gaelic songs) and am getting married in July to an Irishman (he is an Irish speaker, but doesn't get the opportunity to use it enough over here in Dundee...)

I have chosen an English reading, but we also wanted to include an Irish one for his sake and also that of our Irish speaking guests. We have rented poetry books and googled, but can't find any examples of poetry or verse or short stories that aren't quite old. I have no issue with this generally, but the trouble is that anything about friendship/love tends to be either tragic or religious or both (we are having a humanist ceremony).

Can anyone recommend any modern Irish Gaelic writers/musicians that we may be able to research for a suitable reading? My thinking being that they may offer more variety in terms of non-religious (and ideally not really corny) poetry/advice/short stories/songs about companionship.

Any translations would also be very welcomed for my sake, otherwise I'll just pass names along to the other half for him to read.

There are vows in Irish on there but some of the grammar is not correct. If you like something there, let us know and we can correct it or add to it.

As far as something longer in terms of writing, I'll have to look in some of the poetry books and other literature I have on my shelf and get back to you. Someone else may be able to help you with that, too.

And there are songs, of course. Enter "Irish Gaelic Love Songs" into the YouTube search engine and a lot will come up. Often, they provide the lyrics as well.

Is there a particular dialect of Irish you would like? Munster and Conemara don't pose much of a problem but there don't seem to be many Northern speakers on the forum at the moment.
