I've just watched two episodes of this series, and I've realised there is some nonsense pretend Irish in it. The Aes Sedai, pronounced /ˈaɪz sɛˈdaɪ/ in the series, must be the Aos Sí (Aos Sídhe). There is also a character in it called Moiraine Damodred, probably the Morrígan. This is what happens when people who have ZERO interest in Irish come on Irish language forums and ask for "help" to put nonsense into fake Irish. The series isn't even about Ireland and has nothing to do with Ireland.

I really don't think it's much to do with fake Irish, honestly. It's just a fantasy series that is older than myself. I think you're reading too much into this.

It's a new series that is just out.

It's based on a book series, mate. The first one was literally published almost 32 years ago. It's *not* new, and is, as I said, older than myself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time

The book claims that Aos Sídhe (Aes Sedai) means "the Servants of All". This is just nonsense.

Perhaps because it's not Irish? Have you ever thought of that?

It is Irish - but by someone who was just piling any old nonsense in the book. The Moirraine too - the Morrígan.

There is fake Irish used in a lot of witchcraft/wiccan books. And historical romances like the Scottish Gaelic used in Highlander. But if any author comes to this site asking for correct spelling or pronunciation, even if it's for a shite project, I'm happy to help if I am able. It shows they are trying to get it right so fair play to them for that. :reading:

I liked the Gaelic in a series called Outlander (not the same as Highlander), but they only really use Gaelic in the first season. They make a good effort to pronounced ch right in "Broch Tuarach" in the series.
