Secondly, I am sure you know the expression" to go on the tear". Does this come from Irish? If so, what is its' form? Is it solely alcohol-related? GRMA

Ar an ól - That is a common expression. It is even found in Hiberno-English - "on the drink", maybe less in a party sense though.

I don't think there is a better word for partying than "craic". Whatever you consider yourself as fun, it doesn't have to include drinking at all.
Always a noun I think.
