Hi,
I recently acquired a small but unusual (pre-1920) collection of books in Irish Gaelic as well as some books in English with Gaelic inscriptions. The most interesting I've discovered is an early play by the revolutionary Terence MacSwiney which is inscribed by a member of his family (or him) but I cannot tell which because I can't make out the first name in the inscription. His family was full of revolutionaries including the equally known Mary MacSwiney and the book came with a sheet which had her address in Cork along with it, though I'm 99% positive the inscription isn't hers. I have take a picture but I can't upload it apparently, so I've added a direct link. If anyone is interested in helping me solve this riddle please let me know!

I have only started going through this collection so there probably will be others as time goes on.

It's "Eithne", which is his other sister, Annie. Eithne was what I thought it was when looking at it, but could find no relation to him by that name.. However, a Google search revealed several archives where it's stated that Annie MacSwiney went by "Eithne Nic Suibhne". Also, I'm jealous that you managed to get that collection. Looks like it's full of super-interesting stuff!

Awesome, thanks so much! I was trying to puzzle it out but could get nowhere with the first name. This was definitely among the more interesting pieces - the highlight so far has been two different books signed by O'Donovan Rossa!

It very eerily looks quite similar to my handwriting... Except for the "r" in Corcaigh and the capital "E." If it weren't for those two letters I would probably assume I had written it if I saw it sitting around. Really eerie...

Well okay there are other differences. The more I look the more I notice. But my first reaction -- very eerie. Quite eerie, actually.
