Dia Dhaoibh,
I'm a long time reader of the posts here but only joined today so hello!
I was wondering if someone could help me with translation of a house name. We are nearly at the point of moving into our home and want to get something made for the wall. We are in the middle of the country and feel a house name will help with Post etc and I guess we are a bit sentimental about it now too having spent the last 18 months building it!
I saw a house estate in Galway called "Lios na Crí" which I have roughly translated to mean something like "fort at the end"? I was wondering if a variation of this would make sense maybe something like "Lios na Croí" which might mean "fort of the heart"? I possibly have this completely wrong but I love the sentiment of this name (if it makes sense!!)
Many thanks for all/any replies, help and suggestions, while my spoken Irish is still half - decent, my grammar in writing needs a lot of refreshing!
Lios an chroí = enclosed ground of the heart
an chríoch is feminine, so "her" genitive is "na críche" or "
na crí" (at least so pronounced in nearby dialects)
But
an croí is masculine, so "his" genitive is "
an chroí"
