How do you say "What's for dinner?" in Irish?

I'm guessing it's either

Cád ata do dinnéar?

or
Cád é do dinnéar?

Not the second one. The first can work I think, but it should be Cad atá don dinnéar?.

Personally I use Cad 'tá ann don dinnéar?

I'd just to point out that the literal translation of Gumbi's suggestion (which of course is excellent) would be -

What that (it) is there for the dinner ? - the first 'a' in - atá - is what's known as a relative particle, which if you didn't know, you probably wouldn't be able to guess why it was there. And he's added - ann - meaning - there.

They're the same thing. Cad atá is the more 'official' way of writing it, but cad 'tá is generally how it's said.

I’d choose Cad atá ann don dhinnéar?, too, because it is a quite literal translation of my German "Was gibt es (Cad atá ann) zum Dinner (don dhinnéar)".

I think "don" is used in some parts/most parts of Ireland, but Peadar Ua Laoghaire wrote in his Don Cíochóté "Bhíodh súp chun dínnéir aige". I think you could say "Cad 'tá ann chun dínnéir?"

That would still be the typical phrase today in Kerry and Cork in my experience. Also in all related expressions:
"Beidh X agat chun dinnéir" = You will have X for dinner
