Is there any chance of giving a separate section/page for tatoo translations requests.
I am afraid that this forum is descending the same path that a well known irish language translation site went and now it is almost below the waterline due to it content : tatoo requests , spammers , trolls etc. Could the moderating team do something soon b4 the avalanche destroys what was created in this good forum.

That other forum didn't go under because of tattoo translations, it went under because it was sold to an English phishing company that used it to generate revenue at any cost, including peddling racist stereotypes, and ignored the legitimate concerns of the forum regulars.

We had this discussion several times over there and came to the conclusion that the tattoo requests were a positive, as they kept the forum from stagnating, provided a good chance to practice sometimes complicated translation requests, and fostered community. We felt that isolating tattoo requests to a sub-forum would ruin what we had there.

Spammers and trolls are everywhere. The mods here seem to do a good job of getting on top of them and blocking them. Getting rid of tattoo-seekers wouldn't change that one way or another.

I was one of the founders of this forum, and we made the decision when we started it to keep the tone as close to what we'd enjoyed at IGTF as possible. We didn't want another Daltaí forum, where people eviscerated one another over minor points and sneered at people who were looking for translations for tattoos or engravings.

Personally I'm thrilled to see an uptick in such requests, as this forum was becoming very slow.

Go raibh maith agat Redwolf,
I was jumping the gun perhaps but I am satisfied with your considerate and clarifying reply.

I visited the other day, saw nothing but tattoo requests, and thought, "Oh right; that's why I gave up on coming here." Saying that the forum would be "slow" without them is basically owning up to what I've noticed on previous visits: There's very little interaction between members on this forum. I've attempted to start conversations in Irish here in the past and they never go anywhere. Unfortunately, the same seems true of Daltaí as well. Cá bhfuil na gaeilgeoirí ar fad sa lá atá aniubh ann?

Dia dhuit, a Mhic Aba! An bhfuil aon rún don Lá Fhéile Pádraig agat?

Another nice thing...tattoo requests (as well as other translation requests) provide an excellent teaching/learning opportunity. The kinds of things people tend to ask for appear simple in English, but are often quite complex to render well in Irish. And they can provide talking points as well.

I've been spending too much time on Facebook! I kept looking around for the "like" button for this!
