Dia daoibh,

an bhfuil sé seo ceart go leor? "ceachtanna teanga béil fiúntaigh" meaningful oral language lessons?

GRMA

GRMA

Isn't the plural of "fiúntach" fiúntacha?

I would think

ceachtanna teanga béil fiúntacha

is correct.

Wait for more.

Edit: Actually is fiúntacha lenited due to the caol ending of "béil". I think it is. Can anyone confirm?

I was putting "fiúntach" (probably wrongly) in the gin seeming "béil" is gin ? :??: :dhera:

It is not the béal that is fiúntach but the ceachtanna are fiúntacha :)

There are:
ceachtanna teanga = language lessons
ceachtanna béil = oral lessons
ceachtanna fiúntacha = meaningful lessons
if combined
ceachtanna teanga béil fiúntacha = meaningful oral language lessons

What I still wonder is which is better:

ceachtanna teanga béil fiúntacha
or
ceachtanna fiúntacha teanga béil

i.e. the (real) adjective last or first?
Older (rather prescriptive) grammars usually recommend adjectives first, but both occurs.

Teanga béil sounds weird to me (could mean "mouth's tongue").
Why not "teanga labhartha"?

I see that an oral exam is often referred to as - scrúdú cainte.
