Hi, very recently I married a bonnie Irish lass and even more recently have bought our first house together! For a wee surprise house present I was wanting to get a plaque with our door number and new family name (ironically after marrying a Scotsman she now has a more Irish sounding surname!)
I was wanting to get our surname etched in Irish but have hit a little bit of a road block when it comes to working out what the correct phrasing for "The O'Mahoneys" or "O'Mahoney Family" should be!
Google tells me that the most likely candidates would be "Uí Mhathúna" or "Muintir Mathúna"
I would be eternally grateful if anyone was able to provide confirmation!
Many thanks
Stuart
Muintir Mhathúna(or
Muintir Mhathghamhna in old spelling)
or
na Mathúnaigh (
na Mathghamhnaigh)
