Dia daoibh,
Beidh mé ag dul go San Francisco (Baile Phrionsiais??) i gceann deich lá ar feadh cúpla mí. An mbíonn imeachtaí Gaeilge ar nós ciorcail chomhrá ar siúl ann go minic? Tá fhios agam go raibh Deireadh Seachtaine Gaeilge ar siúl tamall ó shin.
Agus níos tábhachtaí ná sin, an bhfuil málaí tae ceart le fáil i San Francisco?
Grma

Hi,
I'll be going to San Francisco in ten days for a couple of months. Does there be Irish language events such as ciorcail chomhrá going on over there often? I know there was an Irish weekend there not so long ago.
More important than that, however, can you get proper tea bags in San Francisco?
Thanks

I can't help you much with the tea bags (I can get Barry's here in the Santa Cruz area, but I don't know about the city), but if you want to message me with your email address I can put you in touch with the people who organize the convo group.

The main conversation group in the area is down the Peninsula (south of SF), but if you have a car it's not too far. I live in SF myself, and we used to have a group here which met from time to time. It grew out of classes at New College here in SF when Irish courses were offered there, but New College closed down and people from the group drifted apart after several years of meeting at a pub in Berkeley, where a native speaker used to moderate the group. The Irish Cultural Center also has occasional groups, but they come and go, and are usually at a basic level.

Go raibh maith agaibh.

I'd be looking for something fairly advanced, but I'd gladly go to a beginners group to keep the language fresh in my mind. I probably won't have a car while I'm there, but from what I hear the public transport is fairly decent, (is it?)

Thanks Redwolf. It's good to know that there's tea available in the US. I've heard stories of people heading over with suitcases full of tea bags. Can I message you using this forum? What level would that group be at?

Mar a deirtear i gCiarraí, beagnach: 'Bíodh San Francisco mar atá sé agus Baile Phroinsias mar a bhfuil sé - i gCorcaigh - 'Frankville', nó i Botswana - 'Francistown'.

Tuigim. Ní cuirtear "St Francis" air i mBéarla. Céard a shílfeadh daoine dá bhfiafróinn orthú "Where is St Francis"?

The Mountain View group is all fluent speakers...occasionally a near-fluent person.

You can message me through the forum I think. You may have to have a certain number of posts to do so, though. If you can't message me through the forum, let me know and we'll work something else out.

We haven't met in a while, but we keep saying we need to get back in the habit, so maybe this would give us some incentive!

Go raibh maith agat a Redwolf. I think I managed to send a message. My Irish would be fairly decent, just a bit rusty from lack of speaking practice.

Is cinnte nach í seo an áit le haghaidh an ruda seo ach an é an brí atá le d'ainm 'iadsan a itheann lachain'?? An bhfuil aon bhrí níos doimhne le baint as?

On the subject of tea bags... I just spent 3 months in Canada, drinking various tea which I thought were equivalent to what I had back home. And oh was I wrong. I really enjoyed my first cuppa when I got back home :D
