Hi again everyone

I posted this at the end of my original thread but haven't heard back, so thought I might pose it as a new question on it's own. I feel like I may have worn out my welcome seeing as I got some great help previously, which I am very grateful for!! :D

Hoping someone could please advise a translation for the phrase:

"They are my reason"

Thank you so very much again!

You should add some clarification. Do you mean that "they" are the reason that you are doing something, or that they are your "reason" in the sense that without them you would lack reason (as a capability)?

The reason (or purpose, or driving force, etc) that I am doing something :D

As a stand alone phrase, a literal translation might sound odd:

Is iad mo chúis [leis]
They are my reason [for it]

It might sound better rephrased:

Táim á dhéanamh ar a son
I'm doing it for [her/them - it's ambiguous in this phrase]

But do wait for other suggestions, or corrections to what I've suggested.

They are my reason [for it]

A second iad is necessary (except in Ulster)
Is iad mo chúis iad.

or (even better) with a single emphatic pronoun:

Is iadsan mo chúis.
Iadsan mo chúis.

Perhaps an inversion (with a normal single pronoun) is possible:
Mo chúis iad.
(This sounds best in my ears, but I'm far from being fluent.)

Yes, approximately.

Oh never! If there's anyone who grates at people here's patience it's I!!!! You just have to come to accept that people respond erratically and utterly at random. Things get lost easily.

Thank you all so much for your help!

I got a bit lost with the grammatical talk, but sounds like the word "they" might be too vague to translate well to Irish. Basically my "they" are my children, so would probably have to specify that for it to make sense. I previously had the phrase "my children - my purpose" translated, but thought it might be better to put it into a complete sentence, such as "my children ARE my reason/purpose). :)

Thank you once again for your kindness and welcoming Cúmhaí! I doubt very much someone so kind can be irritating to anyone!!

Just to chime back in briefly, the choices which Labhrás gave you look really good, and have the benefit of being shorter (and a bit pithier).
