Can the phrase "tá súil agam" be followed directly by a verbal noun (in the infinitive meaning "to...")?

Example: Tá súil agam dul go hÉirinn i 2017

It feels odd to me, and I can't put my finger on why.

FGB gives a number of examples using "le" and "go", paralleling the examples given by Labhrás.

We don't really use "dul" here.
I'd say - tá súil agam a ghoil/ghabháil ...
