My last name is McCormick, and I'm hoping to get our family motto, "without fear" tattooed on my rib cage. I looked it up, and it's "gan eagla" in some translations, and was told that it can also be "gan faitíos", "Gan scáth gan eagla" or "Gan scáth gan faitíos". Are these correct? What is the most proper way to put it? Thanks!

"Gan Eagla" and "Gan Faitíos" are pretty much equivalent. "Eagla" is used more widely in some areas, and "faitíos" in others.

"Scáth" means "shadow" or "reflection." It doesn't really make sense in those sentences.

The word scáth can also mean shyness or timidity, and FGB mentions the expression Gan scáth gan eagla as meaning "without fear or dread; boldly, undauntedly".
