Aside from the few phrases I picked up from my dad, I am very much a beginner student of Irish. My sons, 8 & 5, have expressed an interest in learning as well, but I am by no means qualified to teach them and the program I use is not geared toward a younger audience. Can any of you recommend a program or online resource to help little ones learn the language?

Dia dhuit, if you look, there's already a post on this subject. Most of the Irish educational publishers have Irish coursebooks for children in their on-line catalogues and there's An Gúm, Futa Fata, the Gaelscoileanna and Naíonraí websites srl.

As I always say - my favourite book and CD that gives you an authentic example of children reciting and singing in Irish is Rabhlaí Rabhlaí. Unfortunately it's currently out of print, though you can get second-hand copies of it, if you look for it on Bookfinder - they're asking over thirty euros for it, the usual price is twenty.

Grma! I should have clarified that I am stateside so resources are few, but I was able to locate a copy of Rabhlaí Rabhlaí with CD online for a decent price.

Gaschaint is a book designed for language to be used by parents who have kids going to the Gaeilscoils in Ireland (all subjects taught through medium of Irish) and also want to start speaking Irish to them at home, some of it might be basic, but generally there should be plenty of Irish to use in everyday settings.

- it was mentioned in another list of learning materials somewhere on the forum, it's available in different dialects as is 'Bunghaeilge do Thuismitheoirí agus Feighlithe Leanaí' which you can get from Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta. They have the booklet and CD 'Codail A Mhuirnín' which I like a lot, as well as three other CDs - Maidin sa Naíonra, Damhsa na gCoiníní and Amhráin do Pháistí. Of course there's the CD Suantraí by Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin - though it might not be that easy to find. If you go to the Links page on the Gaelscoileanna website, there's quite a lot there, for example organisations such as Comhluadar (http://homepage.eircom.net/~comhluadar/index.html) - they used to have an on-line parent's guide to speaking Irish in the home, it might be still there somewhere. There's the Éasca Péasca website and the book and CD of the same name in the An Gúm catalogue. srl srl
