Dia daoibh,

I transcribed this inscription from the funerary monument of Dr. William James MacNeven (1763-1841), an exile and accomplished physician, whose monument stands in St. Paul's Chapel Cemetery in lower Manhattan, NYC. I offer a translation below, but I doubt it's right. Might someone have a peak and let me know what you think?

Do thagbhadh an liag-so
Le saothar
A chome-dhúthchasach agas a g-clann
Ag síor-chuimhniughadh
At
UILLIAMS-SHEAMAS MACNEIMHINN,
Do rugadh in Éirinn
Ar an dara lá deag d’an Mharta 1763
D’eag insan g-cathair-so
Ar an d-treas lá ar fichead d’an Mchitheamh
1841

"With this inscribed stone, his countrymen and family offer steadfast commemoration to WILLIAM JAMES MACNEVEN, born in Ireland on March 12, 1763, and died in this city on June 23, 1841"

go raibh maith agat!

Do tugadh an liag seo = This stone was given /laid
Le saothar = by effort
A chomh-dhúchasach agus a gclann = of his co-countrymen and their children
Ag síorchchuimhniú = ever-remembering
At ?

The rest is easy.

-'Do thagbhadh' > (probably) 'do thóg(bh)adh' = '(this headstone) was erected/raised'

- 'at' > 'ar': 'ag síor-chuimhniughadh ar X' = 'forever remembering/thinking of X' (as Labhrás has already said).

Ah, yes, that makes more sense.
