Like Owen, I have to be completely honest with you: I'm looking for a tattoo translation...I don't want hurt anyone: I respect your great knowledge!!!
Here in Italy we have lots of wonderful dialects, very different from north to south, but all great and full of history, and tradition, and culture.
Most of them are dying only aged people use them, in schools and family children only speak "italian", there's no space (and place) for our origin and culture.... it's terrible...
For me your work is wonderful!!!

I have read much about Italian and its introduction to replace dozens of local regional languages and dialects. Yet you are the first person I have ever heard of who did not approve of that nationalization/centralization process. Maith thú!

I remember being told in the 1960's that it was television that managed to impose the Tuscany dialect, though of course that's not to say that many local dialects and regional languages are still going strong. You might like to know that there are at least two Irish websites in Italy that I know of and there's a publisher up in the north (Val d'Aosta - or Emperor Augusta's Valley, if you prefer) that has brought out an Irish course and dictionary for speakers of Italian. I seem to remember that there are also a couple of websites in Italian in Ireland for Italians living and working there.
I understand that in the Gaeltacht, once they've seen the news concerning their own part of the country, they turn it off, as they're not interested in what's happening anywhere else. Is that true, Bríd Mhór ?

With the local news, yes. No point listening to hear who died in a little village in Kerry .
Same with the current affairs/magazine programmes, I'd be inclined to listen to Iris Aniar, or Máirtín Tom Sheainín, those shows from the Conamara. I'd have no interest in An Saol Ó Dheas. But not everybody is like that.
