 Post subject: (GC) ar or air?

So I've a little question. It seems to me from listening to Connacht speakers on the radio and on TG4, that often "air" is pronounced rather than "ar", i.e. "air an ...". I was hoping that someone might be able to verify this for me.

Its pronounced as air in all dialects.

Yes, we do say it that way in Conamara.
I thought it was just a dialect thing, but apparently not.

In that case should the spelling "air" actually be used in both cases?

No, it's not the same word.

In Scottish Gaelic they do spell both words as "air". Irish should do too, but it doesn't, I don't know why.
