What would be the Irish language equivalent to I was packed like a sardine on the train

Also what's the best way to ask if you there any Irish language societies locally?

Would be most interested in a cork Iris h or Munster dialect translation.

Bhí an traein dubh le daoine

Dubh le daoine / Black with people is a fairly well-worn phrase and is not tied to any specific dialect. Can't think of anything else right now.

An bhfuil aon grúpa Gaeilainne sa cheantar? Is there any Irish (language) group in the area?

In Donegal we'd say "Bhí 'n traein plódaí", or "Bhí 'n traein lán go doras". I don't know if they say that in Munster.

What I see in the dictionary is similar to what Lughaidh says - Bhí an traein plódaithe le daoine, but there's also the expression - chomh brúite le scadáin i mbairille - and I've also seen this - bhí cúigear againn fáiscthe sa chúl (there were five of us squashed in the back. To squash in is - brúigh isteach or teann isteach.
