I want to get aa tattoo that reflects my heritage and I want to make sure its spelt correctly so if you would help me out, that would be great. Also, I'm open to suggestions if you have any.

One way to say it would be "Bí istigh leat féin", but someone else may have a better suggestion..

I've never really understood this expression except when it means "Behave as you normally would", in which case the following might be an idea, although I'm sure someone can improve on it.

Iompair tú féin mar is ceart duit.

The first thing that occurred to me was Bí dílis duit féin ('Be true to yourself'). Depends on context, of course. Might be a touch grand for routine, everyday use.

Just found this in 'An Foclóir Nua' under "to be oneself": bheith istigh leat féin (á la Caomhín); bheith ar do nós/dhóigh féin.

So maybe - Bí ar do nós féin ('Be like yourself/as you are')?
