Hi everyone, I was recently listening to Saol ó Dheas on rnag and heard the presenter say 'bhuaibh' instead of 'uaibh'.
This knocked me back a bit since (even though I must have heard it used by the same speaker) I didn't notice the initial 'bh' until now!

Does anyone know how this works? I'm certain I've heard her say 'uaibh' as well, but I'm wondering if there's any particular rule to it.
For example, is the 'bh' variation used to prevent a hiatus between vowels - kinda like a sandhi?
I'd also be curious if this is common in Cork (or even further north into Galway etc. - I don't think I've heard a Cois Fharraige speaker use it).

Follow on question - she also seemed to be using chuin instead of chun - does anyone have any insight on this also?

At least in Kerry, this occurs regularly with all forms of the preposition ó, i.e. bhuaim, bhuait, bhuaidh, etc. As far as I know this isn't a result of a Sandhi rule. Of course, the forms without the intial bh- are also common as well (i.e. uaim, uait, uaidh, etc.) in the region.

Chuin is indeed used instead of chun in CDh, especially in more modern versions of the dialect (for example, I notice that in the original version of An t-Oileánach, Tomás Ó Criomhthain almost always retained the form chun)
