Or how about Makem's: Óro sé dó bheatha bhaile (sounds like: "o ro shay do ba hall ya" when they sing it to me)

Am I missing some quietly pronounced consonants, wouldn't/shouldn't it be "oro! se do bhailé"

Umm, I am new so sorry maybe bheatha is the entire "BA" sound atwix oro se do...and...bhaile???

I couldn't find Tommy Makem singing it. This is Liam Clancy -

Óro sé dó bheatha abhaile - is how it is pronounced too.
Few learners can say "abhaile" correctly. :D

Listen to how "abhaile" is pronounced by Darach Ó Cathain -

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Here's a good site for anyone who wants to learn Irish songs. Irish lyrics, English translations and links to youtube videos so you can hear the songs too. http://www.songsinirish.com/

One for the nasc úsáideacha section?

That has to be one of my favourite renditions of it.

Thank you for that site of Irish songs!! That's a great resource!!

One question, is óró a word? I've heard it a few different places but was under the impression that it was just gibberish? What is it? :darklaugh:

And Maidhc O Conghaile, would there be a relation to Joe O Conghaile who sang Peigín Leitir Moir on the compilation by the same name also released by Futa Fata? Just wondering.

My impression is the same as yours. I think it's a bit like "oooh" and "heyeyey" and things like that. But maybe someone else knows better.

I first came across it in the song Sadhbh Ni Bhruineallaigh, where it says "Oro, a Shadhbh." But I'm pretty sure I was asked and told it was just gibberish.

Its just gibberish that's designed to compliment the tune of the song.
