Has anyone here ever used the synthesizer located at http://www.abair.tcd.ie/?lang=eng? I've tinkered with it some and despite the rather robotic voice it offers a range of voices, dialects and speeds which is better than nothing when you need some help figuring out how to pronounce something. I'm lucky to have access to a native speaker though because I have run across a couple of words that the pronunciation is off on.

Yes. It's been around for quite some time, though until relatively recently it only had the recordings for the Gaoth Dobhair voice. It does OK with single words, but has trouble with longer phrases.

I've noticed that too, regarding the single words versus phrases issue. It's the same with Google Translate. They're handy tools in a pinch but not always accurate. Still, at this stage in my learning I find them, well, better than nothing when you're trying to figure something out in a hurry.
