At Breandán's request, I'm kicking off An Fhóram Litrithe agus Clónna by posting a link to a website I run where you can type any text (only a single line, for now) and see what it looks like in any of a variety of fonts, including Celtic-style (Uncial) fonts.

TextWriter: http://www.ellipsix.net/textwriter/render.html

If you're looking for a good Celtic-style font, I recommend starting with Bunchló GC.

To get accents and special characters, if you're able to type them on your keyboard, that's great! You can just go ahead and type them in the text box. But since most people in the US can't type accented vowels on their keyboards, there are special codes you can use: \' before a vowel puts an accent on that vowel. For example, \'a becomes á. Similarly, \. before a consonant puts a dot over that consonant: \.c will give you c.

If there are any problems, or if you have suggestions for improvement, let me know by replying here or sending an email to contact@ellipsix.net.

:) David

'yadda yadda yadda' is a dialect nightmare. Most often used in the Munster dialect but has spread to a selection of the other dialects. We expect to see it in the next update of An Caighdeán. I would not recommend it as a tattoo until that happens. Although, when it does, it would be particularly attractive in Seanchló.

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.
