I would have thought that once too, Redwolf, but apparently it is not always that simple, if you recall the two members who got about 98 each on the internet grammar test and who were later debating the quadruple genitive name on that test.


"um Maoirseacht Foraoisí " came directly from the example given, i.e., no lenition. I have seen um thráthnóna, so when I checked, it turns out the rule for um is "lenites c, d, g, f, s, t". That is, m isn't lenited, probably because of um ending in a nasal.

Another attempt:

Unlike in America and Europe there aren't any natural forests left in Ireland.
The forests that are here are planted and mostly owned by Coillte the government agency. They also contain conifers.
The natural woodlands here are much smaller and have trees native to this country, like oak etc.


What does stewardship mean in this case? Is it to look after the forests?

Stewardship in this case means to look after the forests, but in a much deeper, sustainable and holistic way than just managing a planted stand of conifers that will be cut and harvested for timber in 25 or 30 years, but rather a system passed on through generations, of growing crops, raising livestock and harvesting other product all intertwined in a forest eco-systems,

In more new age speak we would probably use terms like perma-culture or forest gardening, but really some of these agroforesty practices are quite ancient ( see the traditional foraging of pigs in New Forest in England or coppicing throughout the balkans)


Anyway, I think I am ready to go with: Maoirseacht Talmhaíochta sna Foraoisí

IF there is CONSENSUS that that is grammatically correct, captures the two concepts well in enough and sounds OK to the ear,

I am comfortable with it being expressed as "Agricultural Stewardship in (the) Forests" as compared to "agroforestry stewardship" as I originally presented it, or "Agricutlural foresty stewardship" as Maoirseacht(a?) Fhoraois Talmhaíochta might express.
