I found the word for friend as "Cara" but found it again when speaking about a male friend as "Chara." Would I be correct if I assume Cara (f) and Chara (m)? Also, if I'm speaking of a male wolfhound friend would it be Chara Cú or Cú Chara? This might work great considering his future profession.

"Ch" only occurs in certain grammatical situations...it doesn't depend on the friend being male or female. For example, if I'm addressing a friend, I say "a chara," regardless of the individual's sex.
As before, the modifier needs to come AFTER the word it modifies. So if you are talking about a "hound friend," it's "Cara Cú."
