(I posted this question but it doesn't seem to show up. I apologize if it duplicates.)

I found the word for friend as "Cara" but found it again when speaking about a male friend as "Chara." Would I be correct if I assume Cara (f) and Chara (m)? Also, if I'm speaking of a male wolfhound friend would it be Chara Cú or Cú Chara? This might work great considering his future profession.

Thanks so much,

Sunshine

"Ch" only occurs in certain grammatical situations...it doesn't depend on the friend being male or female. For example, if I'm addressing a friend, I say "a chara," regardless of the individual's sex.

As before, the modifier needs to come AFTER the word it modifies. So if you are talking about a "hound friend," it's "Cara Cú."

When I was in Ireland there were many, many places I enjoyed seeing. The friendliness of the people everywhere was exceptionally lovely. But there was one place that I had the most fun and if I had the choice of only one place to go back to it would be Doolin. (Actually it would be the Dingle but I'm not going to name my wolfhound Dingle!) I love Traditional Irish music - my favorite being the Wolftones, of course. (Seen them here many times.)

So the puppy's name is officially "DOOLIN."

I want to thank all of you who took the time to help me with translations, spellings, fadas and pronunciations. It was a monumentous elimination process. But I'm happy with his name and it just seems to fit him.

Thank you again, all, and so...

May you always have...
Walls for the winds
A roof for the rain
Tea beside the fire
Laughter to cheer you
Those you love near you
And all your heart might desire.

Congratulations! I like it. Now you can call him "droolin' Doolin"!
