But I see that the equivalent expression in Irish that they give on Teanglann is - Tá sé ag cur/ag caitheamh sceana gréasaí.

I think this is in agreement with what was said, as sceana gréasaí is the object of cur without any báisteach in sight here

It's a bit off-topic , but in Provence when the sky gets really dark and it pours down, they say it rains capelans - chaplains/priests and belles-mères - (widowed) mothers-in-law - because both of them are dressed in black.
