I see someone already asked about the past tense of "stop" and found that it shouldn't be "shtop" as verbix had it listed, but should just be "stop" (see the following link which someone had provided to the previous question http://www.csis.ul.ie/focloir/). Does that mean that it shouldn't be lenited after the particle "gur" either?

New to the Irish language here. Thanks for the help in advance. :)

Yes, that's right. The following "s" combinations can't be lenited:

Sc
Sm
Sp
St

An easy mnemonic is "Scallions Smell Spicy in Stew

Redwolf

I don't think I've met that yet (or if I have, I've forgotten)! Would you mind providing some examples, please?

I've learnt it from Gaeilge Chorca Dhuibhne.

An bhfuil taifead ar bith le chloisteáil le séimhiú ar ''sm''?

(there's shm in Gaoth Dobhair too on this page but I'm afraid the speaker simply read the words even though they don't exist in her dialect... you can see that with several other words there)

I Mumhain, tá do rogha agat i dtaobh séimhiú a chur ar sm, ach tá difríocht ann idir Chorcaí agus Corca Dhuibhne mar gheall ar an dá leitir san. Is minice i gCorca Dhuibhne shm, ach i gCorcaigh, is é sm, gan séimhiú, an nós is coitianta.

Okay. Thanks, everyone. This helps a lot. Much appreciation. Also, thanks for the heads up on the Munster dialect twist with "sm". :)
