I'm new here so I do apologise in advance for any board rules I unwittingly violate.

Anyway I need some assistance with translation of a phrase "Grandson of Dowley". Dowley being my my mother's maiden name and Grandfathers Surname.

I used http://nuacht1.com/ogham/ to get a translation but I have no way of confirming it is correct.

Ogham is not a language but an alphabet, so you can't really "translate" into Ogham. You just can use Ogham spelling, "transcript" into Ogham.
Ogham was originally used to write Archaic Irish. So, that's the appropriate language for Ogham.

Archaic Irish "grandson of Dowley" (= black hero) would be somethig like "Avos Duvolaici" (or avvos, avas?)
In Modern Irish Dowley is Ó Dubhlaoich, grandson, ó / avos, already part of the name.

What you've been told above is all correct, but nowadays Ó Dubhlaoich really means "descendant of Dowley" or "member of the Dowley clan" (since not all members were literal descendants of the clan "founder"). If you want to make it clear that you mean Dowley's literal grandson, you could use garmhac Dubhlaoich.
