Yes, I agree - that was exactly the sentiment I was going for - the meaning changing with the context and the listener/reader - taking on different shades and hue of colour

I was also going to suggest something like this, the only difference in mine would be dialectal word choices.

If you wished to use a phrase that conveys the sense of there being different interpretations - which I get from your quote above - you might consider a phrase that would make more sense in Irish, as direct idiomatic translations don't often work.
