I realise that I'll wake up in a few days and you'll have 15,000 posts. Clearly, you never sleep, eat or turn your computer off. I have no chance. In fact, I've been in trouble today with the hubby becasue I have been online more than usual as I've kept checking in to see the latest. It's been quite exciting watching the next installment.

By the way, Scooby wins the award for the funniest translation request (on the other side).

Actually, I have just checked and they have deleted it (and answered your letter, by the way). He posted a thread with the title something like, 'Please translate: you have strangled your cash cow'. Scooby can correct that if it is not totally accurate. He also promoted ILF again and changed his signature to include a personalised message to the new owners. I can't remember it exactly, but it contained a word that rhymed with 'bankers'. It was quite touching really - no pun intended.....

By the way, you all sound a little unreasonable and intolerant in the answer that the nice, friendly, Irish-language and culture-loving new owners gave. Maybe I sided with the wrong crowd.......

I bet they are checking in on us to see what we are up to here. I wonder should I sound repentant......

I wonder if they made all the mini-mods into full mods.
They really don't have a clue how to run a forum.

I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

This thread is being quoted across the water.

http://www.irishgaelictranslator.com/tr ... 09144.html

Just thought you might like to know.

The irony is that NOBODY wanted this to happen. It should have been the perfect site to buy - a site that other people ran for free, a technical hitch to sort once in a blue moon and that's it.

Anyway, the Irish language has survived worse; I'm not sure that websites have. Advertising revenue certainly hasn't.

Breandán, is that Guinness that the smilie is drinking? Is that a sponsership deal you have going on over there at the side of the screen? And as for that obvious ad for the florist called 'GRMA!'.....

I've been banned permanantly. Being a mini-mod, with only limited capabilities, I thought I did a fair job over there. I only locked threads that were duplicates, merged threads, and split off threads that were hijacked. I can understand if they're cleaning house of all the current mods in light of what's been happening lately, but why ban me completely from the site?

FFS ! They are nuts.
You had nothing to do with what happened. You weren't a moderator. We didn't even consult you about what we were going to do. You did a great job Scott. That is totally unfair of them.

That's ridiculous. Especially given that they've only given me a 7-day ban (see here http://www.irishgaelictranslator.com/tr ... 44-20.html). Pennyrat, you did NOTHING that should have resulted in banning. Absolutely nothing. They're trying to turn us against one another.

Reality trip here, folks. Seriously...Breandán, Saoirse and pennyrat banned permanently? Me being banned for seven days? Bríd not banned at all? They are definitely trying the old "divide and conquer." They're trying to turn us against one another. It isn't going to work.

I will not be going back after St. Patrick's Day. And I was never "the leader of the moderators." I've been a member of the forum for nine years, sure, and I've got the highest post count, but as I've said many times before, that only indicates that I'm chatty and that I have no life...I'm no one's leader. In fact, I was NOT a moderator by my own request for quite some time (as Werepoodle said on IGTF, sometimes we need to take a fatigue break).

Everything the moderators did, we did after conferring with each other, and after a lot of discussion. We didn't involve the mini-mods because we didn't even begin to think that they would be tarred with the same brush as we were...why would they be? The fact that pennyrat was banned is both shocking and abhorrent. There is absolutely no good reason for that.

We were, and still are, in agreement. Redwolf stands with Breandán, Saoirse, and pennyrat as "permanently banned." In fact, Redwolf would be happy to step down as a moderator here at ILF, and to just be a regular member, if that's what needs to happen to underscore her commitment. I am NOT going to let these people make me into their Judas goat.

I posted this link at IGTF, in a thread that was deleted. But I still think it's relevant. Éire agus An Ghaeilge Abú!

pennyrat, if they were being true to their own logic they would not ban you or Saoirse, only me. I think because they can only see your links from IGTF to ILF, it may well be that they think you were directing people to us, but in fact you were posting links in both directions to help people on both sites get their three confirmations.

I'm sorry that you got caught up in it all when you were really just trying to be neutral and help everyone on both sides.

I also think they grossly misunderstand the moderation process. Mods split, merge, and lock threads to prevent confusion. We also edit titles, etc., to make requested topics easier to distinguish. They will find nout soon enough though. The spammers have already started to infiltrate the most recent topics at IGTF. With experience you start to know what to look for.

I just feel sorry for all the new arrivals and people with half-baked translations left in limbo because the new owners haven't got a clue what they are doing ...

I too have now been permanently banned. Horray!!! My 6500+ posts remain, other than the last couple, and my new signature is still on them - for now!

Maybe we could make a collection and buy the site from the current owners in a few weeks' time. Might be difficult to reach the target of €5 though!
