Hey everyone! I know that studying specific scripture verses isn't the most efficient way to continue my quest to learn Irish, but it is the most interesting and enjoyable!

Here's a part of Revelations 19:10

"Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

An Bíobla Naofa:
Déan Dia a adhradh. Óir is ionann spiorad na fáidheoireachta agus fianaise Íosa.

Questions:
1) Déan Dia a adhradh.

Can somebody give me a literal translation of this sentence?
What if instead of this I just said "Mol Dia" of Adhair Dia"?

Here are some thoughts of mine

Déan- (of action implied in object) to do

Adhradh- verbal noun of Adhair, worship, adore
So here, we are treating the "Worship" as a noun. Sort of interesting.

2) na fáidheoireachta. How come this word is plural? Could spiorad na fáidheoireachta be translated as "spirit of prophecies?"

3) Óir is ionann spiorad na fáidheoireachta agus fianaise Íosa.

Could I swap "spiorad na fáidheoireachta" with "fianaise Íosa" to have

Óir is ionann fianaise Íosa agus spiorad na fáidheoireacht.

So that "Testimoney of Jesus" comes before "Spirit of prophecy", as in all the English translations I have read?

Btw I love this: Óir is ionann fianaise Íosa agus spiorad na fáidheoireacht.

This is literally something like: "For the testimoney of Jesus and the spirit of prophecies are equal."
Is that correct?

lit.: "Do God to worship" (worshipping God, do it)

equally correct.
There is "Deum adora." in Latin.

There is no infinitive in Irish, so the verbal noun is used.

It is genitive singular
Plural would be: na fáidheoireachtaí, genitive plural (here required) would be: na bhfáidheoireachtaí

Is ionann iad, so: yes.

English is a subject first language.
But Irish is a predicate first language.
So, it makes some sense that the (felt) subject (test. of J.) comes last in Irish.

Strictly speaking, the whole phrase (spiorad na fáidheoireachta agus fianaise Íosa) is grammatically subject. (Ionann is predicate).
So, you can change the order.

You could as well change the sentence to:
Is ionann agus fianaise Íosa spiorad na fáidheoireachta.
Here, "ionann agus f. Íosa" is predicate.

Quote:

This is literally something like: "For the testimoney of Jesus and the spirit of prophecies are equal."
Is that correct?

Yes. I wonder whether this is a correct translation at all in ABN.
There is just "est" in the Vulgata. (Testimonium enim Jesu est spiritus prophetiæ)
I'd think "X is Y" is slightly different in meaning to "X is equal to Y".

In Bedell’s Bible it is: óir is í fíadhnuise Iósa spiorad na fáidheadóireachda.
