Apparently, in the next episode, our ex-Minister for Education makes primary school kids cry - not so positive for the language.....

The programme is subtitled so you don't need perfect Irish. There is a considerable diversity of levels spoken on the programme so even early learners would follow bits and pieces.

By 'natives', I meant people who live locally! The competition is held outside of Gaeltacht areas - north and south of the border.

"Local people" are often called "natives" in English, which is correct if they are born in the region, but is not the same as "native speakers". In this case, a Lughaidh, you would be wrong to equate the word "native" with "native speaker". (Usually the problem is the other way around, of course.)

many people use the term "native" to say "native speakers" so how could I know?
Anyway you can be "local" ie. to live there without being born there... so "local" people is better in this case.

I have to say I'm really enjoying this program. Especially that guy Eddie from Aherlow. He's great craic.

Just a bit disappointed I didn't hear about this competition before the programs were recorded. A couple of places that entered are quite close to me. I would have paid a visit to some of the events if I'd known about this.
