Especially when there are two r's together like that.

I'd say there's no difference in pronunciation between "níor rith" and "*ní rith", as Breandán says, the two r's come together. So you say "níor" but you think you say "ní"

And I was trying to do gymnastics with my tongue

It is recommended that you always wait for three to agree on a translation.
I speak Connemara Irish, and my input will often reflect that.
I will do an mp3 file on request for short translations.

Ní gá duit gymnastics a dhéanamh le do theangaidh a Bhríd, bíonn sé foirfe i gcónaí má fhuaimneann tú go nádúrtha :-)

Here we go again. Sorry for the background buzz on this one. I think my laptop fan wasn't running on the first ones I recorded and it's running now so I'm getting a buzz.

So, the same lines as before. Is this any better? Worse? The same?

And here's me trying to say "Tá carr agam" Brid's way (which I haven't been practicing like the other lines, but I thought I'd try anyway).

Tell me if you can't hear me and I'll re-record when I get rid of this cold/sinus infection/whatever I have. :/

Hi, mim. I meant to get back to you sooner but first work and then a stomach complaint kept me busy. :panic:

Definite improvement. Only two problems with the broad r in "try2":

Firstly, the first, initial r in ramhar is perfect but the second, final r is overtrilled - one flap is enough.

Secondly, I still can't hear a flap in carr, though as I've mentioned that can be due to recording quality.

For the slender r's in aréir, what you have is the passable, but it would be nicer if the flapping was lighter and slightly buzzier.

The r in "ta_carr_agam_try1" is great. (The syllable straight after that, however, should be "am" rather than "um".)

Thank you so much. It's such a relief (and exciting) to know I'm headed in the right direction because I was afraid I was doing it all wrong. Very encouraging and so helpful as usual. Back to the books/mp3s!! Feels great to know I might get there someday. Haha... :nail:
