This one is mainly directed at Lughaidh. How would you use fá dtaobh de in questions?

Like, if I wanted to say "What is it about?": Cad fá dtaobh de a bhfuil sé? or cad a bhfuil sé fá dtaobh de? Are both right? Basically: Does it work like a normal preposition, where it can appear before or after, or does it do something weird?

normally "cad" isn't used alone except in Munster... Donegal has caidé or goidé (spelt as "cad é" in standard Irish - but this doesn't show that the d is slender).
So it would be "Cad é a bhfuil sé fá dtaobh dó?".
In theory, "Cad é fá dtaobh dó a bhfuil sé" would be correct but I'm not sure people use it.
Actually I've looked for occurrences of the question "caidé a bhfuil sé fá dtaobh de?" etc in both Tobar na Gaedhilge and Google, and I couldn't find almost anything. Maybe people say it in another way ?
I've just asked in a Donegal-Irish Facebook group , we'll see what native speakers answer.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I know I saw one example from Rosenstock's Beginner Irish book, when I Googled 'faoi dtaobh de, where he gave: Cad é a bhfuil tú ag caint fá dtaobh de?

Tá sé maith nuair atá a fhios agat caidé a bhfuil sé fá dtaobh de.

Confirmed by other native speakers on Facebook, they'd also say "caidé a bhfuil sé fá dtaobh dó".



Yes, or "cad é atá i gceist agad", depending on the context.
Btw Donegal people use "dó" instead of "de". Basically all the forms and variants of the preposition "de" are replaced by those of "do" in Ulster, afaik.
