Hello everyone,

I am a french girl who needs your help to translate " friends are family we choose for ourselves" in Irish gaelic.

This tatoo will have a special meaning to me, so I want to make sure the writing is correct.

Any help and suggestions are welcome!

thank you :D

Not a bad sentiment indeed!
Here is my suggestion:

is iad na cairde an chlann a roghnaíonn muid dúinn féin

Always wait for feedback and consensus!

Tá mé cinnte nach gá a chur i gcuimhne duit gur "páistí aon lánúine" an ciall atá le "clann", a Chumhaí. Thabharfainn an leabhar gur deargnamhaid don Bhéarlachas thú. :D

So as Errigal says, don't be using clann unless you mean "descendents", i.e., your kids.

Perhaps:

Bíonn cairde mar ghaolta a roghnaíonn muid féin.
"Friends are (like) relatives we choose ourselves."

Await further discussion ...

(Edited to add a literal English translation of the Irish.)

:good:
gaolta = relatives
It is a good idea to avoid the "family" problem.

is mé go deimhin!!! cuidigh liom an cogadh sin a fhearadh!!

I had discarded teaghlach as an option. for obvious reasons
I hadn't really liked gaolta either, because gaolta aren't necessarily all close to one another
I was thinking that clann was better since it made it clear that they are as siblings

I guess it is a good time to pose the question
mo chlann
Is it necessarily my children? Or can it also mean my fellow children of shared parents?

I am guessing the prior, but had been thinking the latter, alas

Anyway, to the OP, please disregard my musings. The translation with gaolta is :good:
