Ah, I just realized I can use the mp3 version on my iPad (I always forget I have an iPad for some reason).

Anybody know what dialect they use in the Buntus Cainte program?

It was me that thought it was in Munster, but it isn't.

Hi, i have an ipad 2 and the text doesnt work on the music app, on the phone you can tap the screen and get the 'lyrics' which in this case is the text to what they are saying but not on ipad, yet, theyll probs add that feature in the future - its a pretty silly thing to omit

You're right. It doesn't work on iPad, but I think it's a bug in the iOS 5 because I have the first gen iPad. Apparently iOS 5 broke the lyrics plug-in on iPad and iPad 2. Great job, Apple.

It does work in iTunes on my PC, but I kind of wanted it on a mobile device... So I emailed the Talk Irish people to see if I could get them to email me the lyrics, then I can listen to the mp3s on my Nokia smartphone (or iPad) and just read the text in my email.

I must say, the mp3s are clear and very easy to hear and imitate. Even my 3-year-old was talking Irish yesterday. Well worth the $14 just for the mp3s (even if I don't exactly know what I'm saying).

Oh you got it great, yeah its definitely iOS 5 the bollocks. I'd of thought they'd fix it soon, its a pretty obvious omission. Did you save the MP3's as music? make sure you do as if you set them as 'audiobooks' like I did you lose features such as repeat or even the ability to listen to all the lessons continuously (it wont progress from lesson one to lesson two etc, you have to manually select each lesson which is a pain when your on the go). Again something I am sure they will update though.

Some app's that may interest you:

iPad specifc:
uTalk HD Irish - perfect for beginners, you will learn your first phrases, foods, colours, time, body parts shopping, the world and you can even record your own attempts at saying them. I 100% recommend this to you
Collins Pocket Irish Dictionary
Greann (Gaeilge) [grammar]
Greann Clock [time]
Cúla Caint [interactive words for children but excellent for beginners]
BabogBaby [for children i.e. time, colours etc]

iPhone apps that work on iPad (not designed for iPad but will work)

EnjoyIrish - good for getting your conversation going
BYKI Irish - hundreds 100 flash cards of words and phrases grouped in topics such as 'at the hotel' or 'shopping' - this app was really effective for me
Making Out In Irish - very rude but funny

I have had a listen to samples of various products listed above and have found the sound files to be in the following dialects:

Buntús Cainte (standard with slightly Connemara pronunciations) :good:
BYKI Irish (standard with slightly Munster pronunciation) :good:

EnjoyIrish (Ulster Irish with Gaeltacht pronunciation (some learner pronunciations?)) :good:

The others look like fun but might not be what you are after if you want to learn traditional Irish pronunciation:

uTalk HD Irish and related products (Dublin Urban Irish).
BabogBaby (Dublin Urban Irish)

Couldn't find samples for the following:

Collins Pocket Irish Dictionary
Greann
Greann Clock
Cúla Caint
Making Out In Irish
